Enekwechi Wins First Gold Medal At African Athletics Championship

Chukwuebuka Enekwechi, on Friday, won the first gold medal of the African Athletics Championships in Douala, Cameroon.

Competing in the shotput event, Enekwechi pounded out a championship record of 21.20m to win to win gold for Team Nigeria.

He completes a hat-trick of African Championship titles, having won in Asaba and Mauritius.

He is now tied for the most gold medals by a male shot putter in the history of the African Athletics Championships.

In the women 100 metres, Nigeria’s Favour Ofili clocked a time of 11.22s to win her heat and advance to the semi-finals.

Also in the 100 metres semi-finals is Olayinka Olajide who clocked 11.67s to come first in her heat.
