Euro 2024: Spalletti To Remain As Italy Head Coach

Luciano Spalletti will remain as Italy head coach despite the team’s ouster from the ongoing Euro 2024.

A 2-0 defeat to Switzerland saw Italy surrender their crown as European champions.

Following the team’s elimination, there were calls for Spalletti to be relieved of his position as head coach.

But after meeting with the Italian football federation (FIGC) on Saturday, the former Napoli boss will keep his job.

“Yesterday we had a long talk with the manager and I think it’s unthinkable to resolve our problems by abandoning a multi-year project,” FIGC president Gabriele Gravina was quoted on Fabrizio Romano’s X handle. “You can’t abandon a project after 8-9 months.”

The defeat to Switzerland was the first time Italy lost two games in a particular edition of the European Championship.
