Relegation fighters Las Palmas have boosted their survival hopes after battling to a goalless draw at Athletic Bilbao in what was a week 23 Spanish La Liga clash played at the new San Mames on Friday night.

Athletic Bilbao had the better of proceedings but Las Palmas were good value for the one point they earned aided by the impressive performance of Super Eagles midfielder Oghenekaro Etebo, who played 90 minutes in a second successive appearance for his new club after his move last month.

The draw takes Las Palmas (20 points) to within Levante (22 points) who presently occupy the last non-relegation place but still stay in 18th position while Athletic Bilbao (28 points) stay in 13th place as they fail to considerably close the gap on the European places.
